Wooden tool box

You must have the right tools for the job, and once you have all the tools in place, working is safe and easy. A toolbox is a great way to store your equipment and protect yourself from having to waste too many trips to the shop or basement during the next work project. Depending on the design of the work, the types of equipment you need to handle and the type of work you usually bring in a box that will meet your needs for years to come.

Box size and design

Take out your toolkit and see how much space is needed for different types of tools. Plan a large open space in the drawers to hold some handheld power tools and small hand tools. A special type of design for a rolling box has a lifting top and a drawer underneath. Many artisans also have doors for large storage. Plan your box to be lightweight, or sectional, to easily move, one piece at a time. Keep your toolbox low enough to cross standard doors to make it possible to use it in any part of your home.

Materials

Plywood is great for making boxes, plywood is lightweight, strong and easy to work with. For making boxes, 1/2 inch plywood is good. It is so solid that there will be six without any framing. Use wood glue and nails for all joints to strengthen the box. Use a handle to lift the box, railing its drawer.
